300 Ryanair jobs to go to Spain or Germany

The 300 jobs that Ryanair claimed it would create at Hangar Six at Dublin Airport are now going to either Spain or Germany.

Opposition politicians had rounded on Tánaiste Mary Coughlan and Transport Minister Noel Dempsey after the low-budget airline claimed that no government member had tried to secure the jobs.

Questions were raised about the circumstances under which Aer Lingus became Hangar Six's new tenant after SR Technics left with the lost of over 1,000 jobs.

But Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary said the Government botched this opportunity.

"It's done and dusted," Mr O'Leary said.

"We now have two final offers from two other European airports, and we are recommending one at a board meeting early next month.

"Both are in continental Europe - one is in Spain, the other is in Germany.

"If they (the Government) had lifted the phone and told the DAA to give us Hangar Six, these jobs could now be coming to Ireland."
