Collapsed rail viaduct to reopen next month

A viaduct that collapsed on the main Dublin to Belfast rail line last August is due to reopen next month with a full resumption of services.

Iarnród Eireann has spent over €4m repairing part of the Broadmeadow viaduct that collapsed into the Malahide estuary just moments after a train had passed over.

It has caused severe disruption to passengers using the North Dublin commuter lines and travelling between Dublin and Belfast with limited services and bus transfers in operation.

An investigation was launched into the cause of the collapse and found that it was due to water erosion.

Iarnród Eireann has said a full service will resume on November 16 and has assured passengers that the rail line is fully safe.
