Commuters facing major disruption in north Dublin
Thousands of commuters in Louth and north Dublin are facing major disruption today and for the coming months following the collapse of part of the main rail line to Belfast on Friday.
A train carrying around 50 passengers had just passed across the viaduct at the Malahide estuary when part of the structure gave way and crashed into the water.
The line will be closed for at least three months as a result.
Iarnród Éireann has launched a full investigation into the incident and has put in place a contingency plan for passengers travelling into Dublin on the line.
Special bus transfers are being run between Drogheda and Connolly Station, while there will be a limited service on the Drogheda to Skerries line.
In addition, Dublin Bus will offer enhanced services on routes into the city from Balbriggan, Skerries, Rush and Lusk, and there will also be a shuttle service from Donabate to the DART at Malahide.
Commuters are being advised to add at least half an hour to their normal journey time while these temporary measures are in place.
