Two men have been arrested following a shooting incident which occurred just hours after a 25-year-old man was shot dead in south Dublin.

Gardaí have launched a murder inquiry following the killing which happened at Lealand Close in Clondalkin last night.

The men in their 20s were arrested a few hours later after shots were fired at a house in the same estate.

The 25-year-old man was shot a number of times in the head outside a house at Lealand Close in Clondalkin at 9.50pm last night.

He was rushed to Tallaght hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination and the state pathologist is due to carry out a post mortem later today.

Gardaí who were alerted to the scene discovered a grey BMW car which they believe was used in the attack at nearby Lindisfarne Park.

An attempt had been made to set it on fire. The car was also preserved for forensic examinations.

At around 2pm this morning a number of shots were fired at the front door and windows of a house in Lealand Close.

A shotgun and ammunition was also recovered.

No one was injured in the second attack.

The men are being detained at Clondalkin Garda Station and can be held for up to 72 hours.
