Bank holiday road safety crackdown underway

The Gardaí have today launched a major road safety campaign for the bank holiday weekend, with extra checkpoints set to be established on roads across the country.
The campaign is also calling on the families and friends of young male drivers to put pressure on them to drive safely.
Young men account for nearly half of all deaths on Irish roads.
Meanwhile, Irish Water Safety is warning of an increased danger to swimmers and water sports enthusiasts this weekend.
Heavy rain is expected throughout the country during the next two days, posing greater risks to people enjoying themselves in the water.
IWS says it is vital to carry a personal floatation device at all times, not to consume alcohol before swimming and to stick to designated safety areas.
