Shannon to Heathrow service expands
Aer Lingus is expanding its high-profile Shannon to Heathrow service almost two years after pulling flights completely, it was revealed today.
The airline shut down the lucrative link in August 2007 in favour of promoting a London-Belfast route, only to re-instate it in March this year.
The company said it would run a third daily flight from the Co Clare hub from October.
Enda Corneille, Aer Lingus corporate affairs director, said the expansion reflected strong demand from the region.
“The increased frequency will connect Shannon and London Heathrow three times daily, which will further strengthen business, leisure and connecting traffic between the west of Ireland and Europe’s largest international airport,” he said.
“This development reflects the growth and strong traffic volumes that we have seen since the resumption of the service last March.”
