Too close to call in Euro seats race

Early tallies from around the country are painting a patchy picture of what could happen when the European votes are counted tomorrow.

In the North West, Independent MEP Marian Harkin is topping the poll in many areas with Declan Ganley of Libertas doing better than expected.

In the South, outgoing MEP Brian Crowley and Fine Gael’s Sean Kelly appear on course for victory.

While it looks like the battle for the third seat will be between Labour's Alan Kelly, sitting Independent MEP Kathy Sinnott and Sinn Féin's Toireasa Ferris.

In the East it could be a fight between Fianna Fáil's Liam Aylward and Fine Gael's John Paul Phelan for the third seat with Fine Gael’s sitting MEP Mairead McGuinness and Labour’s Nessa Childers on course to take the first two seats.

While in Dublin it is likely to be a three-horse race for the final seat between Sinn Féin’s Mary Lou McDonald, Fianna Fáil's Eoin Ryan and Socialist Joe Higgins.

Sitting MEPs Gay Mitchell (FG) and Proinseas de Rossa (Lab) are topping the poll.
