No improvement in literacy of poorest children since 1980, says charity

Reading and writing skills among poorer children have not improved in almost three decades with one third still suffering severe difficulties, a review of education cuts revealed today.

Children’s charity Barnardos warned the Government’s crisis Budget will create a false economy if ministers press ahead with a reduction in teaching posts and education supports for the disadvantaged.
