Reward offered to help catch security guard's killer

A €20,000 reward was offered today for help in solving the murder of a security guard found stabbed to death near an old cemetery.

David Whyte, a 35-year-old living in north Dublin, was last seen alive at Arthur Conan Doyle’s pub in Phibsborough, last September.

Although Mr Whyte lived nearby in the New Cabra Road, his body was discovered some distance away almost two days later at the rear of an old cemetery at Mill Lane in Palmerstown.

A post mortem examination showed he had been stabbed more than 20 times on the upper body and neck.

Investigating Detective Inspector Peter O’Boyle appealed for anyone with information that could help the investigation to get in contact.

“The person who assaulted David Whyte may have had unexplained blood-stained clothing and may have unexpectedly left the area as a result of the attack,” he said

Det Inspt Boyle also appealed to taxi drivers who may have brought a fare from Phibsborough to Palmerstown between September 24 and 26 to get in touch.

Crimestoppers has put up the €20,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction.

Investigating gardaí distributed posters and leaflets in Phibsborough, Cabra and Palmerstown today trying to jog people’s memories about what they may have seen on the night.

Special leaflets are also being handed out to taxi drivers at ranks on O’Connell St.
