Dissidents being blamed for Derry gun murder

Politicians in Derry are blaming dissident republicans for the murder of a 38-year-old man in the city overnight.

The victim, who has been named locally as Jim McConnell, was shot dead by two masked men at his home in the Woodland Avenue area just after midnight.

The police are understood to be investigating a possible drugs link to the killing.

Local DUP MLA William Hay says he believes dissident republicans are to blame.

The scene is being forensically examined this afternoon.
