Passengers unhurt as tree rips roof from bus
The roof was ripped off a double decker bus with 10 people onboard today when it crashed into a tree during rush hour traffic.
The bus was making its way along a designated bus lane on Dublin’s North Strand towards Artane in the north of the city when it struck the overhanging tree.
Dublin Bus said the driver was taken to hospital to be treated for shock while ten passengers who were onboard at the time escaped unharmed.
None of the passengers were on the top deck of the 42A route double-decker at the time of the crash just before 8.30am, according to a company spokeswoman.
A team of accident investigators from Dublin Bus’s risk and safety department has been asked to immediately begin inquiries into the cause of the incident, near the Five Lamps pub.
They will examine CCTV footage from the bus, interview the driver and passengers and examine the bus, which the company said was a regular model from its fleet.
Gardaà were called to the scene and confirmed they are investigating the collision.
The crash sparked traffic chaos on the busy north inner city route during the morning rush hour.
Some early reports of a fire on the Volvo Alexander bus were incorrect, according to Dublin Bus.
The company spokeswoman also said there had been no complaints or safety concerns about the tree in the past.
