Teenager accused of role in mugging is served with book of evidence
A teenage boy accused of taking part in a violent mugging of a 15-year-old boy which was allegedly videoed on a mobile phone, was served with a book of evidence today.
The 16-year-old has been charged at the Children’s Court with robbery of the boy, on the grounds of Dublin City University, in Glasnevin, on a date last January.
Judge Bryan Smyth had earlier held that the case should be sent forward for trial to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court which can on conviction impose lengthier sentences.
The teenager, who is in custody on remand, was served with the book of evidence today after which Judge Smyth made an order sending the case forward for trial at the present term of the Circuit Court.
Legal aid was granted to the boy, who was accompanied to his case by his mother.
Earlier, investigating garda Fergal Finnegan, of Ballymun station had told the court it was alleged the defendant and an alleged accomplice entered the grounds of DCU in Glasnevin.
He alleged one teen “assaulted the injured party who was punched a number of times in the face”.
He had also alleged that the boy’s co-accused “videoed the incident on a mobile phone”. Demands were made at which the victim handed over his mobile phone and €5.
The boy’s co-defendant, who is also aged 16, is also to face trial and is to be served with a book of evidence on a later date.
