Finglas riot teen remanded
A 17-year-old boy arrested in connection with riots that broke out in Finglas in Dublin during St Patrick’s Day festivities has been remanded on continuing bail.
The north Dublin boy, who cannot be identified because he is a juvenile, had been charged at the Dublin Children’s Court with travelling as a passenger in a stolen car at Berryfield Drive, in Finglas, on St Patrick’s night.
Judge Eamon O’Brien yesterday remanded the boy, who was accompanied to court by his father, on bail to appear again in September.
He heard that Health Service Executive would to provide assistance to the teenager.
Earlier defence solicitor Michelle Finan had said the teenager intended to plead guilty. However, she had said the boy was in a “vulnerable situation".
“His mother has her own problems. I would suggest the HSE address his accommodation with his mother. When she is unwell he tends to become homeless, he needs intervention,” she had submitted.
The boy, who is on a training course, has a number of strict bail conditions including a curfew to be in his north Dublin home between 9pm and 7am as well as further order compelling him to remain sober and to stay out of the Finglas south area.
