Report criticises focus on past murders in North

A parliamentary committee in London has criticised the resources being expended on investigating unsolved murders that happened during the Troubles in the North.

In a report out today, Westminster's Northern Ireland Affairs Committee is calling for a review of the £34m (€42.7m) project set up to reinvestigate more than 3,200 murders between 1968 and 1998.

Of the more than 1,100 cases that have been re-examined by the PSNI's Historical Enquiries Team, only one has been passed to the Public Prosecution Service with a recommendation to bring charges.

The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee says the PSNI must be able to maintain a focus on policing the present rather than the past.
