A 17-year-old boy charged with the murder of a Polish man in Drimnagh, in Dublin in February, has been further remanded in custody by the Children’s Court pending the preparation of the book of evidence in the case

The teenage boy, who cannot be named because he is a juvenile, had been charged last month with the murder of Pawel Kalite on Benbulben Road, Drimnagh, on Saturday, February 23 last.

At the Children’s Court today, Detective Garda Eamon Maloney made an application to Judge Patrick McMahon for a further two-week remand for the service of the book of evidence in the case.

The boy, who is from the south-east inner city area of Dublin, had been remanded in custody to St Patrick’s Institution earlier but two weeks ago was granted High Court bail which he is yet to take up.

Judge McMahon remanded the teenager in custody for another two weeks with consent to High Court bail.

Earlier in the proceedings, Det-Garda Maloney had said he arrested the defendant at 10.24pm on March 14 last at Crumlin Garda station, in the presence of his father.

Det Maloney had said that when the boy was cautioned, he was invited to make a reply, to which he answered "no".

Mr Kalite (aged 29) and his friend Marius Szwajkos (aged 27) died due to injuries received in an argument with teenagers outside shops on Benbulben Road, a short distance from where they lived.
