MEP: 'Ireland’s neutrality will not be affected by the Lisbon Treaty'

Irish troops will not be forced to take part in any conflict if the Lisbon Treaty is passed.

Irish troops will not be forced to take part in any conflict if the Lisbon Treaty is passed.

That is the message from a Fianna Fáil MEP urging a yes vote in the upcoming referendum on the treaty.

Any mission that the troops may be involved in, will only occur with the permission of the United Nations, the Dáil and the Government.

Seán O Neachtain says Irish neutrality will not be watered-down in anyway by the Reform Treaty being passed.

The MEP for the North and West says voters have nothing to fear from the document.
