Customs officers at Dublin Airport have seized €700,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Officers believe the cash was being exported to buy drugs for a west Dublin gang.

The money was found in a checked-in bag after officers detained a 26-year old man as he was waiting to board a flight to Brussels.

A spokesman for Revenue Customs said: “This brings to approximately €1.5m the total seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act by Revenue’s Customs Service at Dublin Airport to date this year."
