Talks begin on redundancy package for Seagate workers
Efforts are due to get underway today to negotiate a redundancy package for around 900 workers who are set to lose their jobs at the Seagate plant in Co Derry.
The US-owned firm announced plans yesterday to close down the facility in Limavady and move production to Malaysia, where labour costs are considerably cheaper.
Almost 1,400 workers at another Seagate plant in Derry city have been told that their jobs are unaffected.
A formal consultation process on a severance package for the Limavady workers will begin today.
The job losses are also expected to be discussed at a meeting of the North-South Ministerial Council in Dundalk.
