George Redmond trial adjourned
The trial of former Dublin Assistant County Manager, Mr George Redmond, on corruption charges which was scheduled to begin on later this month has been adjourned again to a date to be fixed.
His trial was originally due to start on July 2 last but was adjourned then to October because of media reporting of evidence in the Quarryvale Module at the Mahon Tribunal which discredited him.
Judge Joseph Matthews has now fixed a date in November for the hearing of applications at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on legal issues surrounding this case and the October trial date has been vacated.
Mr Redmond, aged 82, has pleaded not guilty to receiving Ir£10,000 on a date between June 1, 1985 and June 1, 1986 as an inducement or reward for doing or forebearing to do anything in respect of a compulsory purchase order by Dublin City Council on 167 acres of land situated at Bussardstown and Coolmine.
Judge Matthews adjourned the trial and set the date for hearing the legal issues following submissions made this morning by prosecuting counsel, Ms Pauline Walley SC (with Mr Patrick McGrath BL) and defence counsel, Mr Brendan Grehan SC (with Mr BL).
