Ombudsman clears police in Mc Conville shooting

The North's Police Ombudsman has cleared officers of wrongly shooting a man dead four years ago in Co. Antrim, saying they feared for a colleague's life.

However, the Ombudsman has strongly criticised the operation's planning and voiced grave concern over missing information and the attitude of some officers to her inquiry.

Neil McConville was shot three times during a car chase outside Lisburn in April 2003 when officers believed he was about to drive at a colleague who had been knocked down and was lying injured directly in his path.
