Overnight, a number of families in his constituency had to leave their homes after four cars were set on fire.

The incident happened in the Holyland area behind Queens, where landlords have bought up many houses and let them out to students.

The university has set up a warden scheme, but just a week into the new term, windows were smashed and four cars set on fire.

Mr McDonnell says the situation is a nightmare for the few families left in the Holyland.
