Bid to inspire Labour Party after disappointing election
Labour leader Pat Rabbitte is to address supporters drawn from around Ireland today on plans to drive the party forward after a disappointing general election.
The annual Tom Johnson Summer School continues in Galway city, with Labour Party members joined by supporters from Northern Ireland and Britain.
The three-day annual event is being used by the party to develop new strategies after Labour won 20 Dáil seats in the May election when it had hoped for major gains.
Senior party figures and union leaders have been joined by Mark Langhammer of the Northern Labour Forum and British Labour Party MP Jeremy Corbyn for a conference discussing: “Where next? – Labour after the election.”
The organisers said the event would hold debates on topics as wide ranging as the future of Labour after the election, Labour in the north, migration, as well as a look at socialism in the 21st century.
