Mother upset as drug smuggler uses dead baby's name

A Co Armagh mother has spoken of her upset at discovering her dead baby's identity was used by one of the Co Cork suspected drug smugglers.

Mary O'Leary has said she only heard about the name theft from a newspaper report.

One of the gang, accused of involvement in the attempted smuggling of a €100m in cocaine, gave his name as Gerard O'Leary.

Mary O'Leary, from Armagh, said she and her whole family were shocked and heartbroken at reading about it in a newspaper.

Her son, Gerard O'Leary, was born on July 2, 1985 and died less than 12 hours later.

He was buried at a cemetery in Co Monaghan and Mrs O'Leary says her son's details may have been taken from his gravestone.

The whole family was upset by her child's name being linked to cocaine smuggling.
