Adams and Orde attend community meeting in Belfast

Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams held his first public meeting and handshake with PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde during a community gathering in his west Belfast constituency last night.

Mr Adams invited Mr Orde to attend the meeting in Ballymurphy to discuss a violent feud between two families in the area.

The area has experienced scores of arson attacks, assaults and forced evictions in recent years following the murder of a local man by a rival family.

A small group of republican hardliners picketed last night's meeting, accusing Mr Adams of being a traitor.
