McEntee report unlikely to lead to prosecutions

It’s now thought unlikely that prosecutions will arise out of the McEntee inquiry into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

It’s now thought unlikely that prosecutions will arise out of the McEntee inquiry into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

The Government is due to publish the report’s findings tomorrow on why the Garda investigation ended prematurely, why certain leads were ignored and why documentation went missing.

Thirty-three people were killed and more than 300 were injured in the 1974 explosions.

Sinn Féin MEP Mary Lou McDonald said the report would warrant further investigation.

Ms McDonald said: “There are a number of unanswered questions – situations that the Government and others have to answer in relation to the bombs at Dublin and Monaghan.

“Certainly we support the families of Justice for the Forgotten in terms of their call for a full independent inquiry – it’s going to require a process of that level of rigour and that level of transparency.”
