Indaver abandons incinerator construction plans

One of the country's biggest waste management companies is abandoning plans to build two incinerators in Meath and Cork.

It is reported that Indaver Ireland made the decision because of the Government's failure to implement a national and regional policy.

Indaver Ireland had sought planning permission for a municipal waste incinerator in Carranstown near Duleek in Co Meath and an industrial and municipal waste incinerator in Cork.

The company has been operating in Ireland for 30 years.

It said the cost of building these incinerators, expected to be in the region of €200m, would not be commercially viable.

Indaver's team in Ireland now plans on focusing on the British markets instead.
