Elderly man in serious condition after Dublin fire

An elderly man is in a serious condition in hospital, following a fire at premises in Dublin last night.

The blaze broke out at a block of flats on St Mary's Place in the north inner city just before midnight.

Several units of the fire brigade were called to the scene, and an elderly man was rescued.

He was rushed to the Mater Hospital, where he's being treated for serious burns.

It's understood a number of Gardaí are also being treated for smoke inhalation.
