Gardaí are investigating the possibility that contaminated heroin may have led to the deaths of six addicts in Dublin.

The deaths occurred in three city hospitals - St Vincent's, Beaumont and the Mater - and post mortems have been carried out on the bodies.

Gardaí suspect that a contaminated consignment of the drug may have been responsible for the fatalities.
