UDA denies advance knowledge of Stone attack

The Ulster Defence Association has denied claims that it knew in advance about Michael Stone's attempted bomb attack at Stormont last Friday.

Reports in some Sunday newspapers say the loyalist group had sent out four hit squads to try to intercept the convicted killer and prevent him from mounting the assault.

The UDA, however, has categorically denied knowing anything about the attack, with one source describing Stone as criminally insane.

The 51-year-old is facing a string of charges, including attempted murder, following his antics at Stormont.

His early release under the Good Friday Agreement has also been revoked and he is due back in court on December 22.
