Bomb squad investigates suspicious device in Carlow

Gardaí and the army explosives team are investigating a suspicious device found in Co Carlow.

It was discovered as part of an on-going garda operation in Carlow targeting dissident republican groups.

Two men from Carlow were arrested and charged with membership of an unlawful organisation at the Special Criminal Court today.

The men were remanded in custody and will appear in court again next Wednesday.

Superintendent Pat Kavanagh, who is leading the investigation, said a number of searches were being conducted in the greater Carlow area.
