The Co Roscommon Archdiocese of Elphin has launched its policy on child protection.

The Co Roscommon Archdiocese of Elphin has launched its policy on child protection.

Thirty-two of the 38 parishes in the diocese have signed up to the policy, which was developed in line with Department of Health guidelines.

The Bishop of Elphin Dr Christopher Jones has said he wants a child protection representative in every parish in the diocese.

Last year, Dr Jones said there were nine allegations about priests in the diocese, which were founded on "reasonable suspicion", but none of the clerics involved were in active ministry.
