The Garda Representative Association has claimed the lives of gardaí are being put at risk because of the force's outdated radio equipment.

The association says four officers who were beaten and kicked by a gang of youths in Cork at the weekend were unable to call for reinforcements because their control centre could not hear what was being said over the radio.
