Bailey to sue Gardaí over treatment in du Plantier case

The former chief suspect in the Sophie Toscan du Plantier murder case is set to sue the Gardaí for allegedly conspiring to convict him of the killing.

Ian Bailey's legal team claims that he was singled out by investigating Gardaí and that witnesses were coerced into giving evidence against him.

Sophie Toscan du Plantier was beaten to death at her holiday home in Schull, Co. Cork in December 1996. Nobody has ever been charged in connection with the murder.

Ian Bailey was the chief suspect in the case. Last year, one of the Gardaí's main witnesses whose evidence linked Bailey to the scene of the crime withdrew her statements.

Papers in the case are expected to be filed in the coming weeks.
