Man to be sentenced in relation to back-seat bomb

A Dublin man who admitted having an improvised bomb in the back seat of his car at the West-Link Toll Bridge will be sentenced at the Special Criminal Court today.

Martin O’Rourke, 22, of Sheepmore Grove, Blanchardstown, pleaded guilty last month to knowingly possessing an improvised explosive device on the M50 motorway at Castleknock on December 8 last year.

Members of the Special Detective Unit surrounded O’Rourke’s car and made the arrest.

O’Rourke is serving a two-year prison term for driving a stolen motorbike dangerously and at speed while being pursued by gardai in Lucan.

A high-security presence is expected around the Special Criminal Court for today’s sentencing.
