Probe launched into second Dublin factory fire

An investigation was launched today into the cause of a suspected chemical blaze at a factory in Dublin.

Up to 45 firefighters battled overnight to bring the blaze at Tolka Industrial Estate in Glasnevin under control.

Nine crews were called to the Protim Abrasives plant in the north of the city at around 3.30am.

It is believed that chemicals used for supplies to the construction industry and other materials were involved.

At its height there were concerns of possible explosions and the blaze spreading to adjoining buildings.

Crews remained at the scene today after bringing the flames under control. Traffic had to be diverted from a number of roads.

Dublin firefighters earlier successfully contained a major fire at the Protim Abrasives factory in the Ballyboggin Industrial Estate in Cabra.
