The body of a man was discovered in a Co Galway town in the early hours of the morning, gardaí confirmed today.

The body of a man was discovered in a Co Galway town in the early hours of the morning, gardaí confirmed today.

The man, who was in his 20s, was discovered in an open area at St Brendan’s Road in Portumna.

A garda spokeswoman said: “The state pathologist’s office has been informed we don’t know what caused the death.”

The scene was sealed off after the body was discovered around 5am.

A post mortem exam will take place on the body at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
