54-year-old man dies as car hits ditch in Galway

A 54-year-old man has died after his car crashed into a ditch in Co Galway early today.

The accident happened shortly after midnight in the Cornamona area.

Gardaí are withholding the dead man's name until all next of kin are informed.

Meanwhile, a man is due in court today in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Dublin at the weekend.

Seventy-nine-year-old Thomas Kealy, from Dolphin House in the south inner city, died when he was struck by a car in the Crumlin area on Saturday afternoon.

The vehicle failed to stop at the scene, but gardaí later arrested a 22-year-old man who is due in court in connection with the crash this morning.
