Post mortem due following death of Limerick prisoner
A post mortem is due to be carried out today on the body of a young inmate who died after he fell ill in his cell at Limerick Prison yesterday.
An ambulance was called after the 20-year-old began suffering breathing difficulties, but efforts to save his life failed and he was pronounced dead at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.
Foul play is not suspected, with early indications suggesting his death may be the result of a drug overdose.
Meanwhile, another young prisoner is recovering in hospital after he was stabbed several times at Dublin's Mountjoy jail on Friday evening.
The 22-year-old was attacked in the prison's recreation hall and is said to be in a comfortable condition in the Mater Hospital.
