FG TD claims Dubliners feel 'terrorised' by gun crime
Fine Gael TD Jim O'Keefe has claimed that the people of Dublin feel terrorised on a daily basis due to the level of gun crime in the capital.
Mr O'Keefe made the claim following the attempted robbery of a security van in the city centre this morning.
Two armed raiders fired a number of shots at the van on Liffey Street West at around 8.30am, but fled the scene empty-handed.
Gardaí say they panicked after realising that the van was bullet-proof and their shots had failed to shatter the passenger window.
"It's very frightening that incidents of this kind are becoming nearly an everyday event," Mr O'Keefe said.
"Firearms seem to become more and more used in robberies and attempted robberies and this incident adds yet again to the sense of insecurity on the part of the people in this country and in particular the people in our capital city."
