Dublin’s litter problem 12% worse than rest of country
Dublin's litter problem is significantly worse than that in the rest of the country, according to the Irish Business Against Litter organisation.
The group said a survey carried out by An Taisce ranked Dublin's cleanliness at just 67%, compared to 79% in the rest of the country.
One-third of the 20 areas surveyed in Dublin were deemed to have serious litter problems, including the city centre, Tallaght, Malahide, Ballymun, Mulhuddart and Clondalkin.
Just five locations were deemed to be litter-free, including Clontarf, Dalkey/Killiney, Howth and Swords.
IBAL said fast-food wrappers, plastic bags and ATM receipts were among the main causes of the situation and were a bigger problem in the capital than elsewhere.
