Gardaí in Cork are questioning a man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on the outskirts of the city yesterday evening.

The victim, a 65-year-old male pedestrian, died after being knocked down on the Lee Road at around 5.30pm by a car that failed to stop at the scene.

He was named today as Finbarr Walsh, from Connolly Road in Ballyphehane.

The man being questioned by gardaí is believed to have turned himself in to detectives in Gurranabraher at around lunchtime.

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old man who died when his car hit a wall in Passage West, Co Cork, last night has been named as Lee McNamara, from Pembroke Wood.
