Anti-litter group names Carlow as Ireland’s cleanest town
Carlow has been named as Ireland's cleanest town by the Irish Business Against Litter organisation.
The group said today that Carlow had topped its anti-litter league for 2005 ahead of Cavan and Fermoy.
It also said the number of towns classified as litter-free in Ireland had doubled from 11 in 2004 to 22 this year, while the number of blackspots remained the same at four.
All areas with a population of more than 6 ,000 people were surveyed as part of the league.
The four areas identified as blackspots are Mayfield in Cork, Finglas in Dublin, Cobh, Co Cork, and Ballinasloe, Co Galway, while nine others are classified as having serious litter problems.
