North: Three questioned after major tobacco haul
Three men were being questioned tonight after police seized millions of cigarettes in a move against dissident republican crime.
They were arrested during a planned swoop in Armagh.
Officers from the Police Service of the North’s Organised Crime Branch and officials from Revenue and Customs were involved in the operation.
Police confirmed a massive consignment of tobacco was taken during the raid.
The offensive was directed at serious and organised crime linked to dissident republicans, a spokesman added.
As the suspects were held, searches and forensic examinations continued at the undisclosed location where the seizure was made.
Meanwhile, detectives in north Antrim were tonight interviewing another three men suspected of involvement in serious crime.
The arrests were made during an operation in the region.
Although the Police Service of Northern Ireland would not give more specific details about the investigation, it confirmed a number of searches were also carried out.
