Controlled explosions carried out in Derry city

A major security alert has brought Derry to a standstill this afternoon.

Controlled explosions have been carried out on a number of suspect devices.

The area around Strand Road police station has been sealed off, and students from North West Institute have been prevented from returning to college after lunch because of the scare.

No-one has yet claimed responsibility for planting the devices.
