Teenager detained for two years for attack
A 15-year-old boy, who broke another youth’s nose and two of his teeth during a fight, has been detained for two years by Judge Angela Ni Chonduin at the Dublin Children’s Court.
The north Dublin boy pleaded guilty to assaulting the youth causing him harm in the Baldoyle area on February 2 last.
Howth Garda James Ronan had told Judge Ni Chonduin that the teenager became involved in a fight which left his victim with a broken nose and two broken front teeth.
The young victim, who was also in his teens, had to undergo dental treatment costing €1,600.
The teen had also admitted burgling a shop in Swords on March 13 last.
In September, Judge Ni Chonduin ordered a probation report to be furnished to the court and adjourned the case until yesterday. She had also told the teenager that he would have to make efforts to compensate his victim because of the dental treatment that he had to receive.
She heard today that the teen had since been detained for another offence and that there was no prospect of compensation.
Defence solicitor John Quinn said teen had a number of difficulties that were outlined in a probation report and he could benefit from his time in custody.
Judge Ni Chonduin imposed an order detaining the teen, who was supported in court by his mother, in Oberstown Boys’ Centre for two years.
