Officers to seek compensation for Troubles trauma
More than 5,000 police officers in the North are due to launch a legal case today seeking compensation for trauma suffered during the Troubles.
The officers, both serving and retired, have accused the authorities of negligence by failing to prepare them properly for exposure to the conflict.
The British government could face paying out up to £100m (€148.2m) if the officers succeed in their case at the Belfast High Court.
The action, which is being funded by the Police Federation, is expected to last until next Easter.
