Murdered cameraman to have fund renamed in his honour

A cameraman from Co Meath who was shot dead by terrorists while working in Saudi Arabia last year is to be honoured.

Thirty-six-year-old Simon Cumbers, who was killed over a year ago in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, is to have the Media Challenge Fund renamed in his memory.

He was working for the BBC with security correspondent Frank Gardner in a suburb of the city when they were fired on by terrorists.

Mr Cumbers died at the scene and Mr Gardner was critically wounded.

Minister of State for Development, Cooperation and Human Rights Conor Lenihan will rename the fund in Iveagh House in Dublin this evening.

The Media Challenge Fund was set up to financially assist journalists and media organisations in producing media pieces relating to international development.
