North: Commissioner appointed for Troubles' victims

A new victims' commissioner has been appointed in the North and will be responsible for setting up a forum for all those who suffered during the Troubles.

A new victims' commissioner has been appointed in the North and will be responsible for setting up a forum for all those who suffered during the Troubles.

Bertha McDougall is a former primary school teacher. Her husband, a former RUC officer, was shot dead by the INLA in Belfast in 1981.

Since then, she has been involved in campaigns for police widows.

So far, the DUP is the only political party in the North to have approved Mrs McDougall’s appointment.
