Probe into swimming pool sex abuse claims
Gardaí are investigating a number of allegations of sexual abuse concerning a swimming pool in New Ross, Co Wexford, it has emerged.
It is understood that some of the allegations in relation to New Ross Kennedy Memorial Swimming Pool concern sexual abuse and stretch back over several years.
Councillor Ingrid O’Brien, the chair of the New Ross Town Council, said: “Sometime last week the local council was notified something had happened we called in the gardaí and they said the swimming pool should be closed and it was closed.
“It is in the hands of the gardaí.”
The public swimming pool, which is owned by New Ross Town Council, was closed for several days.
The garda investigation – headed by Supt Tom Saunderson – is believed to have begun over a week ago after information was presented to officers.
