A nationwide roadshow to cut the number of children killed in car accidents is being launched today following research that found two-thirds of child car seats were not fitted properly.

The first ever nationwide car safety roadshow from the National Safety Council (NSC) is aimed at reducing the number of child car passenger deaths and injuries.

The "Check it Fits" roadshow, which will begin in Dublin and then tour the country, will give parents the chance to have their children’s car seats checked by experts.

The NSC scheme is being launched today in Dublin by UK child car seat installation expert Mark Bennett.

At the launch the NSC will also announce preliminary results from the National Road Authority’s recently conducted Speed and Seat Belt Surveys which looks at seatbelt use among primary and secondary school children in Ireland.
